"Most hurtful have been the lies about who we are and why we would have an abortion, and the notion that it’s anyone’s place to judge. The president’s assertion that “There could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding her infant child than the chilling displays … that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb moments before birth,” is outrageous. It’s puts us on the defensive and makes us feel like we have to explain ourselves, and in doing so we are forced to publicly relive our traumas and be subjected to willful, entrenched ignorance and nasty judgments.

 

Pain is heaped on whenever a tragedy is turned into debate fodder.

 

But it has been a beautiful thing to see our members standing up for themselves, standing up for each other, encouraging and applauding each other, empathizing and supporting when the going gets rough. Everyone cares deeply about those who will face this tough decision after us, and we understand how important it is to keep abortion access available so all parents can make the choices they need to with dignity.

 

We share our painful stories because we know the truth of this situation can change hearts. And laws."
